In short
- BlockAm checks incoming calls on your phone, against a list only you write.
- We keep three things: your account (email, display name), your blacklist, and your blocked call history for 365 days. They exist so your list works on all your phones.
- We never read your contacts, never record or listen to calls, never show ads and never sell or share your data.
- You can delete everything yourself, any time, from Settings in the app.
Who we are
BlockAm is run by Netpro Africa (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the BlockAm apps for iPhone and Android and this website, www.blockam.dev. We are the data controller for the information described here, under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
Questions about your data go to support@blockam.dev.
What we collect, and why
| Data | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your email address, display name (optional) and account ID | Sign-in, account recovery, and keeping your data separate from everyone else’s | Until you delete your account |
| Your blacklist: the numbers and prefixes you add | To block calls, and to sync your list across your phones | Until you remove the rule or delete your account |
| Blocked call history: the number that called, the rule that blocked it, and when | Your History and statistics screens, on every phone you sign in to | 365 days, then deleted automatically on your phone and on our servers |
The numbers in your blocked call history belong to the people who called you. We store them only so you can see who your rules stopped, and only for the year above. They are never combined across users, shown to anyone else, or used for anything except your own history and statistics.
Your data lives on your phone and is synced to our backend under your account. Every row is tied to your signed-in account: no other user, and no one without your password, can read or change it.
What we never do
- No contact upload. Your address book is never read.
- No call log access. BlockAm doesn’t ask to read your call log or phone state. On Android, the call screening role alone tells the app the incoming number.
- No audio. Calls are never recorded, transcribed or analysed. Only the caller’s number is checked, on your phone, against your own list.
- No shared number database. Your blacklist is yours alone. We never pool numbers across users or “score” callers.
- No tracking, no ads, no data sales.
- No operating system backups. The app opts out of Android backup and device transfer, and keeps its sign-in in the iOS Keychain on that phone only. A new phone gets your data back when you sign in.
- No internet needed to block. The network is used only to sign in and to sync.
Who helps us run it
We share nothing with third parties except the infrastructure providers below, who act on our instructions as data processors:
- Supabase stores your account, blacklist and history, and handles sign-in.
- Resend sends your sign-up and password reset codes and the welcome email.
- Cloudflare Turnstile runs a quick check when you sign in, sign up or reset your password, to tell people from bots. It reads signals from your device’s browser and connection for that moment only, never your contacts, calls or blacklist.
- Vercel hosts this website and keeps standard request logs (such as IP address and browser type) for a short time, for security.
Why we’re allowed to use it
- To provide the service you asked for (your account, your rules, your history and sync): this is necessary to perform our agreement with you.
- To keep BlockAm safe (bot checks, preventing abuse, security logs): our legitimate interest in protecting you and the service.
- To meet the law, where a legal obligation requires us to keep or disclose something.
Where your data is stored
Our providers run servers outside Nigeria, so your data may be stored or processed abroad. When it is, we rely on the safeguards the Nigeria Data Protection Act requires for cross-border transfers, and on our providers’ contractual commitments to protect it.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
- Blocked call history older than 365 days is deleted automatically.
- Settings → Sign out backs up any pending changes, then erases your data from that phone. It stays in your account.
- Settings → Delete account & data (asks for your password) permanently deletes your account, blacklist and blocked call history from your phone and our servers, immediately. It can’t be undone.
- No longer have the app? See how to delete your account by email.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct anything that’s wrong;
- delete your data (you can also do this yourself in the app);
- give you your data in a format you can take elsewhere;
- stop or limit a particular use of it, or withdraw consent where we rely on it.
Write to support@blockam.dev from the email address on your account. If you’re unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng).
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over encrypted connections (TLS). On our servers, access checks tie every row to its owner. On Android your session is encrypted with a key held by the phone’s Keystore; on iPhone it lives in the Keychain. Release builds keep no caller numbers in their logs. No system is perfectly secure, and if a breach ever affects your data we will tell you and the regulator as the law requires.
Children
BlockAm is not made for children. If you’re under 18, use it only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission. If you believe a child gave us their data without that permission, write to us and we’ll delete it.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics, ads or trackers. If you pick light or dark mode, that choice is saved in your own browser and never sent to us. Store badges link to Apple and Google, whose own privacy policies apply there.
Changes to this policy
If we change how BlockAm handles your data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we’ll also tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
