Quick fixes

Calls still ringing on iPhone?

  1. 1Open Settings › Apps › Phone › Call Blocking & Identification (on iOS 17 and older: Settings › Phone) and make sure BlockAm is on.
  2. 2After you add a rule, give iPhone a few seconds to pick it up.
  3. 3Check the rule isn’t marked as too wide for iPhone. A prefix there can cover up to 100,000 numbers, so add a digit or two.

Calls still ringing on Android?

  1. 1Open BlockAm. If it says blocking is off, tap to set it as your caller ID & spam app.
  2. 2Or go to Settings › Apps › Default apps › Caller ID & spam app and choose BlockAm.
  3. 3Some phones stop apps to save battery. Set BlockAm’s battery use to Unrestricted (on Tecno, Infinix, itel, Xiaomi, Samsung and others it’s under Settings › Apps › BlockAm › Battery).

Blocked someone by mistake?

  1. 1Open the Blacklist tab and swipe the rule to remove it.
  2. 2Changed your mind? Tap Undo while it’s on screen.
  3. 3If a wide prefix caught them, use a longer prefix so it covers fewer numbers.

No sign-in code?

  1. 1Codes come from support@blockam.dev. Check your spam and promotions folders.
  2. 2Codes expire after a short while. If yours has, ask for a new one.
  3. 3Still nothing? Email us from the address you signed up with.

Got a new phone?

  1. 1Install BlockAm and sign in with the same email. Your rules come back on their own.
  2. 2Switch blocking on again on the new phone. Each phone keeps its own switch.

Want to leave?

  1. 1In the app: Settings › Delete account & data. It asks for your password, then deletes everything.
  2. 2No app? Delete by email.

Questions

Everything else.

What is BlockAm?

BlockAm is a call blocker for iPhone and Android, made for Nigeria. You keep a blacklist of numbers and prefixes, and any call that matches is declined silently: your phone does not ring.

It is free, has no ads, and never reads your contacts or listens to your calls.

How do I block every number that starts with the same digits?

Add a prefix instead of a single number. Open the Blacklist tab, tap Block a number, choose Whole prefix and type the first digits, for example 0809 123. Every call from 0809 123 0000 to 0809 123 9999 is then blocked, ten thousand numbers in one go.

On Android a prefix needs at least 3 digits. On iPhone each prefix can cover up to 100,000 numbers, so use at least 6 digits for a Nigerian mobile number, like 0809 12.

Does BlockAm work on iPhone?

Yes, on iOS 16 or later. Apple lets only you switch call blocking on: after installing, open Settings, then Apps, then Phone, then Call Blocking & Identification, and turn on BlockAm. (On older iOS versions it is Settings, then Phone.) It takes about ten seconds and the app notices the moment it is on.

Because of Apple’s rules, iPhone blocks a list of exact numbers, so very short prefixes are too wide to block there. The app tells you when a rule is too wide for iPhone.

Does BlockAm work on Android?

Yes, on Android 10 or later. Set BlockAm as your call screening app when the app asks; it is one tap in the system dialog. Android checks every incoming call against your rules in real time, so any prefix of 3 digits or more works, and every blocked call shows up in your History.

Will I miss calls from people I know?

No. Only numbers on your blacklist are blocked. Everyone else rings as normal. If you block someone by mistake, remove the rule from the Blacklist tab; you can undo a removal straight away.

Does BlockAm read my contacts or record my calls?

No. Your address book is never read, calls are never recorded, transcribed or listened to, and BlockAm does not ask for permission to read your call log. Only the caller’s number is checked, on your phone, against your own list.

Do I need internet for blocking to work?

No. Every call is checked on your phone, so blocking works offline and with no data. The internet is only used to sign in and to sync your list between your phones.

Why do I need an account?

Your account keeps your blacklist and history safe and in step across your phones. Get a new phone, sign in, and your rules come back. You sign up with your email address; a display name is optional.

Is BlockAm free?

Yes. BlockAm is free to download and has no ads. We do not sell or share your data.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, open Settings and tap Delete account & data. It asks for your password, then permanently deletes your account, blacklist and blocked call history from your phone and our servers. If you no longer have the app, email support@blockam.dev from the address on your account.
